Meet The Members: Claire Kerr

What do you do for a living?

I am a digital content manager working at the Australian Sports Commission.

How long have you been CrossFitting for?

My sister introduced me to Crossfit three and a half years ago.

What's your favourite movement or workout?

I love chippers and any long workout with lots of different moves.

What's your biggest accomplishment since you started training at Adapt?

There were so many movements that I thought I would or could never do when I first started Crossfit. I am slowly ticking them off the list - handstand, box jumps, toes to bar. However when I was injured with a stress fracture in my foot (not Crossfit related), the coaches were absolutely amazing with providing me with amended workouts to keep up my fitness. I would have been devastated if I couldn't keep active during this time. Once I recovered I actually improved in many areas and hit PRs within weeks which was a huge surprise.

What gets you going outside of CrossFit - eg. what do you do for fun?

I love going to parkrun on a Saturday morning, decorating cakes and watching movies. I also love any type of challenge. I'm looking forward to the being part of the Adapt Spartan team.

How about training goals? Any weaknesses you're working on?
- I don't take my training seriously, I just love being active and staying fit. However, from day one it has been to be able to do a pull up. It is going to be a magical day when this happens.

Paleo, Macros, Keto or Vego? What do you do for nutrition?

Absolutely nothing. I believe in a balanced diet but that is as far as it goes.

Fave workout tunes?

I love Rock, Pop, RNB. But to be honest, most of the time when I'm working out I don't even hear the music over my own huffing and puffing.

Do you have any "up until recently" strongly-held beliefs that have changed - eg. you used to believe A but now, you believe B - and why?

Just in my own ability. I used to think, I could never lift that heavy, I could never jump that high, I'll never be able to do the workout RX. With consistent training and encouragement from the coaches and fellow 5:30am crew I now believe anything is possible if you just give it a try.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting CF but is too scared?

Don't be. I can't speak for other crossfit gyms as I have only been a member of Adapt. But all members have different strengths and weaknesses. Every warm-up and workout have scaled options. The coaches are responsive and will suggest amendments to suit individuals who are injured or sore. It is a friendly, supportive environment where everyone feels included and valued. Give it a go!
